I paint in my own studio and I also paint at the Art Student League NYC. It's always good to get out and mingle with other artists. My ceramics work is done in other studios even though I have a small test kiln in my studio that I can fire up in the winter.

St. Basil's Cathedral - Painted Ceramic -
I began building in clay 8 of the 10 buildings in the last year and because I wanted to exhibit them at Central Booking Gallery (NYC)
I painted them with acrylics. Regretfully I rushed the project and I am not happy with the results. Therefore, I am bisque-firing each section in order to burn off the acrylic paint and glaze each section until the project is to my liking. This process might take another six months, but I think it's worth the effort.
La Cathedral "San Patricia" - Ceramic -
Inspired by St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC - 2 years in the making and has not yet been exhibited. I am looking for the proper venue and sent a special letter to the cathedral requesting it be exhibited there and received no response. Maybe I should write to Pope Francis in Rome!
Left Brain and Right Brain Clinic - In Progress
The "left brain clinic" - In progress
I love Frank Gehry's designs and he designed the Brain Clinic in Las Vegas which is the inspiration for this project. I hope to enter a competition called "Off The Wall" sponsored by The Brooklyn Waterfront Artist's Coalition (submission deadline July 20, 2016).
Hopefully the two sections will be completed on time to submit them.

PENN SOUTH CERAMIC STUDIO - Graffiti In Clay Class
Graffiti in Clay Project - Howard
Inspired by Frank Stella, Elizabeth Murray and Graffiti art, the class was challenged to create their initials in graffiti and combine with separate forms in order to make a wall sculpture. Acrylics, underglazes and glazes were used in combination on individual clay forms and initials and then glued together to create a design.
Teacher's (Ava McNamee) Demo
Using multiple pieces of fired clay in odd shapes, I demonstrated how each form can be painted, under glazed and glazed, then glued together with the graffiti initials to depict a design inspired by Frank Stella and Elizabeth Murray's work. The idea was to also incorporate information about oneself: something that uniquely said something about the artist. My demo piece included images of cathedrals, churches and crosses because that is what says something about me.
